HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND PROVIDED DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT DURING THE DEVELOPMENT PHASE OF THIS PAYLOAD. THIS INCLUDED AN INITIAL FEASIBILITY ASSESSMENT, REQUIREMENTS DEFINITION FOR THE CONTROL AND MONITORING SYSTEMS FOR THE SWINGBED, AND INITIAL DESIGN OF CONTROL AND POWER HANDLING MODULES FOR THE PAYLOAD. THIS PAYLOAD IS PRESENTLY ON ORBIT AND DURING ASSEMBLY OPERATIONS EXPERIENCED AN ANOMALY WHICH REQUIRES THE UNIQUE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS OF THE HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND SWINGBED DESIGN TEAM. THIS EFFORT CONSISTS OF EVALUATING SWINGBED PAYLOAD FAULT TREE ANALYSES, IDENTIFYING AND VERIFYING POTENTIAL ROOT CAUSES. THE CONTRACTOR S SUPPORT WILL ALSO BE REQUIRED TO DEVELOP AND EVALUATE RECOVERY PLANS TO ENSURE THE PROPOSED COURSE OF ACTION MEETS THE INTENT SPECIFIED. HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND S PROPRIETARY OWNERSHIP OF CAMRAS AND CURRENT ROLE IN THE HARDWARE DEVELOPMENT MAKE THEM THE ONLY CANDIDATE FOR THE WORK REQUIRED. HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND HAS PROPRIETARY RIGHTS TO A TECHNOLOGY THAT IS THE BASELINE CO2 AND HUMIDITY REMOVAL TECHNOLOGY FOR SEVERAL FUTURE SPACE VEHICLES. CO2 AND HUMIDITY CONTROL TECHNOLOGY IS ESSENTIAL TO THE SAFE OPERATION OF A SPACE CRAFT. THE CURRENT STATE OF THE ART (SOTA) IN CO2 REMOVAL FOR THE ISS IS A REGENERABLE SILVER OXIDE-BASED SORBENT THAT IS OF LIMITED DURATION AND IS NOT SUITABLE FOR ADVANCED PROGRAMS BECAUSE IT IS PROHIBITIVELY HEAVY (32 LB). THE CURRENT CANISTER AND VALVE CONFIGURATIONS WERE DEVELOPED SOLELY BY HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND UNDER INTERNAL R&D (IR&D) SINCE THE EARLY 2000S. THE CAMRAS WAS DEVELOPED BY HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND AND HAS BEEN UNDER TEST IN VARIOUS CONFIGURATIONS AT NASA S JOHNSON SPACE FLIGHT CENTER SINCE 2006. |

HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND, AS THE ORIGINAL DEVELOPER OF THE AMINE SWINGBED, IS NECESSARY TO SUPPORT THE INVESTIGATION OF PAYLOAD FAILURES AS A PART OF A FAILURE ANALYSIS GROUP AS POTENTIAL CAUSES ARE RULED OUT. HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND HAS PROPRIETARY RIGHTS TO A TECHNOLOGY THAT IS THE BASELINE CO2 HUMIDITY REMOVAL TECHNOLOGY FOR SEVERAL FUTURE SPACE VEHICLES.
