FOR BEST PERFORMANCE, THE APD DETECTOR AND ROIC SHOULD BE DESIGNED AND OPTIMIZED TOGETHER. THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT WILL ACCOMPLISH THE FOLLOWING MAJOR TASKS AND MILESTONES IN THE FIRST YEAR. 1. DETECTOR DESIGN MODIFICATION TO OPTIMIZE THE EXISTING 256 256 HGCDTE APD ARRAY DESIGN FROM THE DUST PROGRAM FOR IMPROVED UNIFORMITY AND OPERABILITY. COMPONENTS WILL BE DESIGNED, FABRICATED, TESTED AND DELIVERED TO NASA FOR EVALUATION. 2. ROIC DESIGN MODIFICATION TO THE EXISTING 256 256 ROIC TO OPTIMALLY INTERFACE TO APDS AND EXTEND THE DYNAMIC RANGE AND ENHANCE RANGE RESOLUTION TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS. THE ROIC WILL BE DESIGNED, FABRICATED, TESTED AND DELIVERED TO NASA FOR EVALUATION. 3. HYBRIDIZE ROIC TO APD ARRAY TO FORM SCA FOR TRL 5 DEMONSTRATION. IN THE SECOND YEAR, INTEGRATE THE RUGGED PACKAGE SCA INTO A THERMAL ELECTRICALLY (TE) COOLED PACKAGE, I.E. AN INTEGRATED DEWAR ASSEMBLY (IDA), AND USE EXISTING LIDAR ELECTRONICS, LASER TRANSMITTER, AND LIDAR TESTING FACILITIES TO CONDUCT TRL 6 DEMONSTRATION. MAJOR TASKS AND MILESTONES FOR THE 2ND YEAR INCLUDE: 1. INSTALLATION OF SCA INTO COMPACT IDA. (USES SAME TE COOLER THE DUST PROGRAM) 2. INTEGRATION OF THE SCA IDA INTO THE EXISTING FLASH LIDAR SYSTEM AT RMS TO COLLECT 3D IMAGING DATA FOR TRL 6 DEMONSTRATION. 3. SHIPPING OF THE SCA IDA AND FLASH LIDAR ELECTRONICS (IF NEEDED) TO NASA LARC FOR FIELD TESTING AT THE NASA LARC SENSOR TEST RANGE (SCR).
