THIS EFFORT IS INTENDED TO IDENTIFY ADVANCED AIRFRAME AND PROPULSION CONCEPTS, AS WELL AS CORRESPONDING ENABLING TECHNOLOGIES FOR COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT ANTICIPATED FOR ENTRY INTO SERVICE IN THE 2030-2035 TIMEFRAME ( N+3 ), MARKET PERMITTING. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS/TASKS: TASK 1: DEVELOP FUTURE SCENARIO. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONDUCT AN ANALYSIS TO DELINEATE THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE NASA NEXTGEN 2030-2035 AIRSPACE SCENARIO. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CREATE A DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE WORLD S AIR TRAVEL MARKET CONDITIONS UNDER THE PASSENGER DEMAND CHARACTERISTICS IMPLIED BY ONGOING DEVELOPMENT OF THE NASA NEXTGEN N+3 AIRSPACE SCENARIO. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM THIS ANALYSIS USING ITS OWN ANNUALLY-UPDATED MARKET OUTLOOK THAT FORECASTS AIR TRAVEL GROWTH AND AIRCRAFT FLEET GROWTH, USING KEY ECONOMIC, DEMOGRAPHIC, GEOPOLITICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS THAT CAPTURE THE GROWTH OF MEGA-CITIES, JET FUEL PRICE FLUCTUATIONS, EMISSION TRADING SCHEMES, NON-FOSSIL ENERGY PRODUCTION AND REGIONAL GROWTH EFFECTS. USING TOOLS FOR ADVANCED NETWORK ANALYSIS, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL DESIGN AND EXECUTE A RANGE OF SIMULATIONS TO PRODUCE A SCIENTIFICALLY SOUND, STOCHASTIC REPRESENTATION OF THE DEMAND STRUCTURE TO BE MET BY THE SUBSONIC FAMILY OF AIRCRAFT THAT IS THE SUBJECT OF THIS STUDY. THESE SIMULATIONS SHALL BE USED TO EVALUATE THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF ALTERNATIVE AIRPLANE, ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE CONFIGURATIONS ON A DETAILED, FLIGHT-BY-FLIGHT BASIS AND TO ESTIMATE THE REVENUE GENERATION POTENTIAL IN THE CONTEXT OF LIKELY DEMAND PATTERNS AND NETWORK TOPOLOGIES. TASK 2: DEVELOP ADVANCED VEHICLE CONCEPTS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ESTABLISH SEVERAL REFERENCE AIRCRAFT CONCEPTS OF CONVENTIONAL CONFIGURATION (SINGLE CIRCULAR FUSELAGE, CANTILEVERED WING, SINGLE AFT-LOCATED HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL TAILS, ENGINE MOUNTED BELOW THE WING OR ON THE AFT FUSELAGE) WITH STATE-OF-THE ART TECHNOLOGIES. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONDUCT A WORKSHOP IN CONJUNCTION WITH ITS SUBCONTRACTORS AND NASA TO IDENTIFY THE PROS AND CONS OF EXISTING INNOVATIVE AIRCRAFT CONCEPTS, ENGINE CONCEPTS AND ARCHITECTURES, AND AIRCRAFT TECHNOLOGIES, AS WELL AS POSSIBLE NEW CONCEPTS, CONSISTENT WITH THE FUTURE SCENARIO SPECIFIED IN TASK 1. IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SELECT FOR FURTHER ANALYSIS THOSE AIRCRAFT AND ENGINE CONCEPTS AND TECHNOLOGIES WHICH ARE EXPECTED TO MAKE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS TOWARD ACHIEVING NASA S TECHNOLOGY GOALS FOR FUTURE SUBSONIC VEHICLES (TABLE 1). THESE AIRCRAFT CONCEPTS TO BE CONSIDERED SHALL INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO, THE STRUT-BRACED WING, BATTERY-POWERED ELECTRIC AIRLINERS, HYBRID-WING-BODY, HYDROGEN-POWERED AIRCRAFT, JOINED WING, AND METROPLEX-TYPE CONCEPT, AND OPERATIONAL VARIATIONS SUCH AS FORMATION FLIGHT AND IN-FLIGHT REFUELING. AIRCRAFT TECHNOLOGIES TO BE CONSIDERED SHALL INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO, MATERIALS AND STRUCTURES TECHNOLOGIES, AERODYNAMIC TECHNOLOGIES, AIRCRAFT SUBSYSTEM TECHNOLOGIES AND FUELS AND ENERGY STORAGE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ANALYZE THE NOISE SOURCE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE REFERENCE AIRCRAFT AND SELECTED INNOVATIVE AIRCRAFT CONCEPTS DURING DEPARTURE AND ARRIVAL USING THE LATEST AIRCRAFT NOISE PREDICTION PROGRAM (ANOPP) SOURCE NOISE CODES AVAILABLE FROM NASA AND IN-HOUSE NOISE PREDICTION CODES OF THE CONTRACTOR AND SUBCONTRACTORS, INCLUDING THE EFFECTS OF ENGINE AND AIRFRAME INTEGRATIONS.
