SCALING RULES, FUEL-INJECTION, THERMAL MANAGEMENT, AUTOIGNITION, ANDCOMBUSTION DYNAMICS. - ENGINE SIZING AND CYCLE ANALYSIS TO DEFINE COMBUSTOR REQUIREMENTS, FOR CONCEPT EVALUATION AND DESIGN. -CFD AND REDUCED-ORDER MODELING FOR AEROTHERMAL DESIGN&EVALUATION, CHEMICAL KINETICS INCLUDING POLLUTANT FORMATION, AND COMBUSTION DYNAMICS. - COMPONENT AND SUB-COMPONENT TESTS AT NON-REACTING AND REACTING CONDITIONS, TO EVALUATE AERODYNAMIC/AEROTHERMAL PERFORMANCE,AUTOIGNITION, AND MIXING FOR SMALL-CORE COMBUSTOR DESIGNS AND ALTERNATIVE-FUEL USE. - SINGLE-SECTOR COMBUSTOR TESTING AT ACTUAL CONDITIONS OVER THE FULL ENGINE CYCLE (UP TO 1000 PSIA&1300 F). - ALIGNMENT WITH NASA INTERESTS AND PROGRAMS: THIS PROPOSAL DIRECTLY ADDRESSES NASA'S FIXED WING PROJECT GOALS OF ACHIEVING DRAMATIC REDUCTIONS IN HARMFUL EMISSIONS, IN A PROPULSION ENGINE CONCEPT THAT DRAMATICALLY REDUCES COMMUNITY NOISE AND PROVIDES REVOLUTIONARY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS FOR SUBSONIC COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT. - ALIGNMENT WITH OBJECTIVES OF SOLICITATION: THIS PROPOSAL DIRECTLY ADDRESSES THE OBJECTIVES OF SUBTOPIC 2.2.1 (LOW-EMISSIONS FUEL-FLEXIBLE N+3 COMBUSTOR TECHNOLOGY), NAMELY TO DEVELOP AND DEMONSTRATE A LOW-EMISSIONS FUEL-FLEXIBLE COMBUSTOR CONCEPT THAT MEETS N+3 EMISSIONS GOALS FOR LTO AND CRUISE NOX IN FUEL-EFFICIENT GAS TURBINES INTENDED FOR FUTURE (N+3) SINGLE-AISLE TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT. THE PROPOSAL TASKS ARE DIRECTED TOWARD MEETING THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE SOLICITATION SUBTOPIC 2.2.1., INCLUDING COMBUSTOR CONCEPT DESIGN, FABRICATION, AND TESTING ON JET FUEL AND A 50% ALTERNATIVE FUEL BLEND, AND DELIVERY OF TEST HARDWARE AND A TEST MATRIX TO NASA.
